Visit the Cumbemayo archaeological complex, which includes three main areas: "the aqueduct," "the sanctuary," and "the caves," all surrounded by an impressive stone forest. The aqueduct is a nine-kilometer canal carved into volcanic rock, designed to divert water from nearby hills to Cajamarca city. The sanctuary features a cliff resembling a gigantic human head, with a crack shaped like a mouth and low-relief carvings. Finally, in the caves, you find walls adorned with an intricate set of lines and anthropomorphic and feline figures. After the tour, you are transferred back to your hotel.
Start your tour visiting the "Ventanillas de Otuzco", an ancient cemetery dating back to the early centuries AD, with rectangular niches carved into solid blocks of trachyte rock. The crypts, stacked one on top of the other, are mostly simple passageways with side niches that can reach depths of 8 to 10 meters. After the tour, you are transferred back to your hotel.
Today, explore the main attractions of Cajamarca. Begin at Santa Apolonia Hill, which features remnants of Chavín culture and the "Inca’s Chair." Then, visit the Belén monumental complex, including the former Hospital of Men and the former Hospital of Women. Next, see the Rescue Room, where Atahualpa was held captive before his execution. Also, visit the exterior of the Church of San Francisco and the Plaza de Armas, the site of the final confrontation with the royalists. Finally, head to the Cathedral, which features a blend of Spanish colonial and Baroque styles, with a facade of locally sourced stone and intricate woodwork. The cathedral stands on the site of an Inca temple and has been central to the region's religious and cultural life.
Visit the Baños del Inca, a thermal water complex where, it is said, Inca Atahualpa was resting when the Spanish arrived. It is believed that, during the Inca Empire, the place was an elegant residence surrounded by trees and springs, a luxurious spa of high status. After the visit, you are transferred back to your hotel.
