The Larco Museum new installation
Since a few months ago, the Larco Museum has been immersed in the enlargement and reinstallation of its permanent collection, opening to the public the first half of a complete renewal.
Each of the new halls presents information in English, French, Spanish, Italian, German and Japanese and will have interactive resources that will create a unique experience for each visitor. The new circuit has Chronological Halls, Halls of Gold and Jewelry, Textiles and Thematic Halls.
Towards June of the present year, the permanent exhibition area will have doubled its size, and the important collection will be displayed in a new museography. This will allow the visitors to engage in the discovery of ancient Peru in an enjoyable and entertaining way.
The Larco Museum planned this renovation due to the increasing number of visitors they are receiving nowadays and because the museum was actually designed in the 50´s, so a complete change was urgent. The museum has improved the galleries for a better understanding of all the Peruvian ancient cultures and their art techniques, so it will be easier for the visitors to get to know the Moche, the Nazca, the Huari, the Inca, and many other equally important societies.
The exhibition “Gold and Jewelry from Ancient Peru” will be twice as large, as they have restored and presented new and outstanding gold, silver and copper objects which will amaze visitors, as well as a hall dedicated to human sacrifices of the Mochica Culture. Photos are allowed in all galleries.
The visit to this spectacular museum can be enriched further with a private guided tour given by Ms. Ulla Holmquist, Chief Curator of the Larco Museum, Archaeologist from the Catholic University of Peru, and Master of Arts in Museum Studies from New York University. Ulla allows the visitors to have a clear and entertaining approach to the evolution of the cultures of Ancient Peru while they walk through the exhibition halls of the Larco Museum – the largest private collection of pre-Columbian art of the world – making it an inspiring experience with first-hand information about the collection and the people that made the beautiful archaeological objects. This awesome experience not only maintains but increases the interest, and makes the guests finish their tour with great enthusiasm and eager to continue learning about our amazing country.
